Nigerian radio says ministers from sixteen West African countries are meeting in the capital, Abuja, to prepare for a summit next week which is expected to discuss conflicts in the region.

The radio said the fighting in Guinea Bissau would be a major focus of the summit.

It said a separate foreign ministers' meeting would take place in advance of the summit.
