Serbia has until Tuesday to withdraw its military and special police units from Kosovo before the Nato deadline expires. Failure to comply could prompt Nato air strikes.

Serb forces still remain in Kosovo

Nato sources say the generals will present President Milosevic with a list of Serb units they want to be pulled out quickly.

A BBC correspondent in Kosovo says he saw a column of troops including tanks, field guns and armoured vehicles, withdrawing from positions north of the capital, Pristina on Saturday, but there's no word of similar movements in other parts of Kosovo.

On Friday, western monitors in Kosovo reported further serious violations of the informal ceasefire between Serb and ethnic-Albanian forces, although they said they did not know which side started it.

Heavy artillery and tank-fire was heard around the Drenica region and guerrilla forces inflicted casualties on the Serbs.

Meanwhile, discussions continued at the UN Security Council on Friday to try reach agreement on a resolution endorsing the possible use of Nato military action in Kosovo.

Russia and China have again objected to the use of force if Yugoslav forces fail to abide by the agreement with Mr Holbrooke.
