Bus passengers killed by mine in Afghanistan

At least forty-one people have been killed and about thirty injured when a bus carrying a wedding party hit a landmine near the southern Afghan city of Kandahar.

Eyewitness reports say the passengers were predominantly women and children.

The bus passed through an area where an operation had been underway to remove mines left after the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan from 1979 to 1989.
