NATO generals go to Belgrade today

Two of NATO's most senior generals, Wesley Clark and Klaus Naumann, are travelling to Belgrade later today to try again to persuade President Milosevic of Yugoslavia to withdraw his forces from Kosovo.

Their mission comes just three days before a NATO deadline for Serbia to comply with an agreement reached between President Milosevic and the American special envoy, Richard Holbrooke.

NATO has warned of the possibility of airstrikes if Serbia does not comply.

Discussions are also expected to resume at the UN Security Council to try to reach agreement on a resolution endorsing the possible use of NATO military action.

Russia and China have again objected to the use of force.
