The 80ft three-masted Eendracht spent two days stuck in Newhaven Harbour, East Sussex. It is now on its way to France.
All 51 people on board were later airlifted off. Salvage experts from Holland helped to carry out the rescue operation with help from a tug from the Isle of Wight. They had to wait until high tide before making the successful attempt to refloat the ship. One person on board was taken to the Royal Sussex county hospital in Brighton but has since been discharged. Sussex Police have set up a helpline for families on 0645 441551. |
