Guatemala donor countries review peace process

A meeting of donor countries for Guatemala has ended in Brussels with a call for the Central American country to press ahead with reforms to its judicial and police systems.

The two-day meeting brought together members of the European Commission, donor agencies and the Inter-American Development Bank as well as more than fifty representatives from Guatemala.

The donors also praised the recent changes to the Guatemalan constitution which were brought in to comply with the 1996 peace accords that saw an end to almost four decades of political violence, and promised to continue to provide the funds promised in 1997.
