Men held over deaths to be deported
Murder scene
Murder investigation was launched after the discovery
Two Lithuanians who had been questioned for four days about the murder of two men in County Down are to be deported for immigration offences.

The men had been released without charge on Monday after they had been questioned in connection with the killings near Warrenpoint on 15 May.

However, the pair were rearrested by police in Newry after their release at about 2000 BST on Monday and are being held over alleged immigration offences.

Meanwhile, detectives investigating the killings have travelled to the Lithuanian embassy in London to formally confirm the victims' identities.

Multiple injuries

One of the victims, found dumped on a roadside has been positively identified as Lithuanian.

It is believed the other victim was also from the Baltic state.

The two men suffered brutal and violent deaths and had multiple injuries, according to detectives.

The police have recovered a silver Mazda 626 car.

They want to know about its movements over the last week or so.

A house in Sandy Street in Newry was cordoned off before forensic scientists conducted a detailed examination.

Police also carried out searches in the Mayobridge area of County Down.

Police in the Republic of Ireland, the Garda Siochana, and Interpol are helping police with the investigation.

Crew records on ships docked at Warrenpoint harbour were also checked.
