Best man drowned on stag night
Ian Gilbert, pictured with wife Charlotte on their wedding day last year
Mr Gilbert was married to 34-year-old Charlotte
A best man who disappeared on a stag night in Ostend drowned, a Belgian official has confirmed.

Ian Gilbert, 25, from Crowborough East Sussex vanished two weeks ago as the 27-strong group headed back to a hotel after a night of drinking.

His wife, Charlotte, 34, had travelled to Ostend last week to try to discover what had happened to her husband.

On Saturday Mr Gilbert's body was found floating in Ostend's marina.

Belgian police recover Mr Gilbert's body
The body was spotted by two Dutch people

A post-mortem examination on Monday revealed that the 25-year-old had died from drowning.

Public prosecutor Koen Wittouck said: "We do not say there has been any violence against Ian Gilbert and all the injuries that he has got were after he got into the water.

"The investigation will stop now because we have no reason to believe there is something suspicious," he said.

Mr Gilbert was on a stag party on 3 May for Mark Rosier, also from Crowborough, but got separated from the group during the night.

His body was spotted by two Dutch people walking around the harbour of the town early on Saturday morning.

Arrangements are being made with Mr Gilbert's family to bring the body home.

Mr Rosier and his bride-to-be have decided to postpone their wedding.
