Pair held over killing are rearrested
Murder scene
Murder investigation was launched after the discovery
Two men questioned in connection with a double killing in County Down last week have been released without charge.

But the pair were rearrested by police in Newry after their release at about 2000 BST on Monday and are now being held over alleged immigration offences.

On Saturday, a magistrate granted detectives a 36-hour extension to hold the men.

On Sunday, they were granted a further extension until 2230 BST on Monday to question them.

The two murder victims suffered brutal and violent deaths and had multiple injuries, according to detectives.

Two men, believed to be from Lithuania, were arrested in Newry on Friday morning.

A third man was arrested later in the day. His nationality is not known.

He was released on Saturday.

One of the victims, found dumped on a roadside near Warrenpoint on Wednesday, has been positively identified as Lithuanian.

It is believed the other victim was also from the Baltic state.

The police have recovered a silver Mazda 626 car they had been looking for.

They want to know about its movements over the last week or so.

A house in Sandy Street in Newry was cordoned off before forensic scientists conducted a detailed examination.

Police also carried out searches in the Mayobridge area of County Down.

Police in the Republic of Ireland, the Garda Siochana, and Interpol are helping police with the investigation.

Crew records on ships docked at Warrenpoint harbour were also checked.
