Tony Blair has called for illegal immigration to be put at the top of Europe's agenda, saying that progress has been bogged down with missed deadlines and slow progress. He argues that "urgent action" is needed to strengthen the EU's borders and that the EU should use its financial clout to punish countries where asylum seekers are coming from.

Wembley
The road to building a new national stadium at Wembley has not exactly been smooth - but a report due to be considered by a house of Comons committe tomorrow - could make the way ahead look a whole lot rockier. Our Business Correspondent Paul Mason had the latest.

Ireland
Fresh from celebrating his re-election as Irish Prime Minister, Bertie Ahern now knows he'll have to move fast to tackle one of the biggest problems in his in-tray; just how to persuade a reluctant electorate to do Europe's bidding and vote in favour of the Nice Treaty. It might sound arcane but the Irish are single-handedly holding up enlargement of the European Union and all the polls indicate they're in no mood to change their minds. Liz Mackean reported from Dublin.

Francis Fukuyama, author of The End of History, came in for a lot of grief after September 11th but probably unfairly so. Jeremy Vine explored whether he still thinks liberal democracies are on the winning side and whether America can export its political values through the barrel of a gun.
