Emergency service were called to the prison, when trouble flared in an accommodation block on Saturday afternoon. The Scottish Prison Service, which runs the jail, said negotiators had been trying to bring the remand prisoners to order. Saughton was the scene of a prison siege on 14 June 2001 in which two nursing officers were taken hostage. Talks ongoing Scottish Prison Service spokesman Tom Fox said no prison staff were involved in the incident.
