Russia condemns attacks on foreigners

Russia's Foreign Ministry says it shares ambassadors' concerns over a rise in attacks on foreigners and threats against embassies in Russia.

But the ministry said Russians were also the victims of violent attacks, and such incidents should not be considered examples of racial intolerance.

Ambassadors representing the diplomatic corps in Moscow met the Russian Foreign Minister, Igor Ivanov, on Saturday to express their concerns.

The meeting follows increasing activity by far-right groups who have issued threats against foreign nationals and embassies.

Mr Ivanov told the diplomats that measures were being taken to address the issue, and the problem was one that all countries were facing.
