The boy had returned from West Mon School as usual and left at 1655 BST.

But he failed to return and, police say, it transpired he had not, in fact, been to school for days.

Gwent Police issued a press release to appeal for anyone with information about the teenager to come forward.

Pontypool Police Station: 01495 764711

Description: Liam Cheshire
Age: 14 years
Height: 4ft 5ins
Build: Medium
Hair: Short and mousy
Eyes: Brown
Wearing: Light-grey tracksuit bottoms with yellow stripe, black Henry Lloyd coat, Nike trainers
"It is suspected that Liam did return home at some point on Thursday because his brother's bike was missing the next morning," it read.

"There was also a possible sighting of Liam on Wednesday evening in Chapel Road, Pontypool.

"However, the police and his parents are becoming increasingly worried that none of his friends seem to know where he is."

When last seen, Liam was wearing light grey tracksuit bottoms with a yellow stripe down the side, a Henry Lloyd black coat and Nike trainers.
