Family threatened by armed robbers
Gunmen have threatened to set fire to a man during a robbery in County Tyrone.

The incident happened at a house in Tirquin Road, Omagh at about 2100 BST on Thursday.

Two armed and masked men approached the man as he arrived at the house and forced him into the house at gunpoint.

They demanded access to the safe, and when told there was not one in the house, they forced the man and his 16-year-old son into the bedroom, which they searched.

Cut free

The householder was then assaulted and beaten.

Petrol was poured over the man and the intruders threatened to set him on fire. They also fired a shot during the raid.

Before escaping in a gold or silver Vauxhall Cavalier car, the men handcuffed the man and his son together.

They were cut free by the fire service and taken to hospital where the man was treated for a severe cut to his head and other injuries.

It is not yet known if anything was stolen during the attack.
