Ulrika pulls out of speaking date
Ulrika Jonsson
Ulrika admitted her relationship with Eriksson
Ulrika Jonsson has cancelled her first public speaking appearance since the story broke of her relationship with England football coach Sven-Goran Eriksson.

The television presenter was due to give a speech at Cambridge University on Friday but pulled out at the last minute citing "personal reasons".

The 34-year-old hit the headlines when it was discovered she was having a relationship with Eriksson.

The pair both kept quiet about any relationship they had but after several days of being hounded by the press Jonsson admitted they had been together, but stressed it was over.

Eriksson has since been seen out with his long-term partner Nancy Dell'Olio, who travelled to Dubai with him and the rest of the England party.

Jonsson had been booked to appear at the Cambridge Union to talk about her life in showbusiness, starting from her days as a weather presenter on now-defunct breakfast station TV-am.

But it was likely she would have faced difficult questions about her private life.

A message posted on the Union's website from its president Michael Lynas apologised for the late withdrawal but said she would no longer be appearing.

Difficult task

News of the relationship between Jonsson and Eriksson, who are both Swedish, dominated the media for days after the story broke.

Both parties attempted to avoid the spotlight but as Eriksson was preparing to name his World Cup squad it was a difficult task.

But when faced with questions he simply declined to answer anything personal.

It was Jonsson who finally ended the speculation, issuing a statement admitting they had been close.

But she strongly denied allegations that she him issued an ultimatum to leave his girlfriend.

"Like everybody else, I wish Sven the very best for the World Cup," she said at the time.

The mother-of-two spent several weeks out of the spotlight but re-emerged onto the showbiz circuit for the opening of the Queen musical We Will Rock You on Tuesday night.
