Politician murdered in Bangladesh

A city councillor has been shot dead in Bangladesh's capital, Dhaka.

Saidur Rahman was killed by unknown gunmen in the city's commercial district.

Police say they don't know what the motive was for the killing.

Mr Rahman was only elected two weeks ago and was a candidate for the governing Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

During last month's electoral campaign, two candidates were killed and scores of others injured. A BBC correspondent in Dhaka said there was a low turnout at last month's polls, with the opposition boycotting the elections.
