Air India bomb trial delayed

A judge in Canada has postponed the trial of three Sikh men accused of the bombing of an Air India flight in 1985.

The three men Inderjit Singh Reyat, Ripudman Singh Malik and Ajaib Singh Bagri all Canadian citizens, are charged with murder and conspiracy in connection with the attack, which killed 329 people.

Concerns over security and the enormous scope of the trial had already caused delays in the trial.

The latest postponement was caused by the resignation of lawyers for one of the accused.

The trial is now expected to begin in March next year. Until the 11 September attacks, this was the deadliest act of aviation sabotage.

Prosecutors allege the men planned the attacks in revenge for Indian troops storming the Sikh shrine of the Golden Temple in 1984.
