Delhi police kill suspected militants

Police in India say they have killed two suspected Pakistan-based militants in a shooting incident in a busy Delhi district.

They said the two rebels were members of the Kashmiri separatist group, Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The incident is said to have occurred on Thursday night when police tried to arrest the two suspected rebels in the Hazrat Nizamuddin district in Delhi.

Police said that one of the men was a suspect in an attack on a major tourist site - Delhi's 17th century Red Fort - a year and a half ago.

In December 2000, two suspected militants entered the fort and attacked an army supply depot there, killing two soldiers and one guard.

The attackers later escaped.
