New treat for choco-cheese fans
Chocolate cheese
The new product could mean a revolution for cheese
Chocolate-chip cheese is to be made by a Somerset farming business.

The after-dinner treat comes in the form of a block of English cheddar packed with pieces of chocolate.

British cheesemakers took the idea from the French, for whom eating cheese and chocolate at the same time is nothing new.

The unusual concoction is the idea of a family-run company in Somerset who say the product will be available commercially soon.

'Undecided people'

Richard Clothier, of Bruton-based Wyke Farms, said: "We really believe that we are on to a winner here with our practical, yet romantic cheese.

"It is made from strong cheddar cheese and chips of milk chocolate.

"We think it is perfect for undecided people who are tempted by both the cheese board and the sweet trolley at the end of a meal.

Mr Clothier said he could appreciate the thought of combining cheese and chocolate was a bizarre one but only in certain countries.

He said: "For too long people have separated the dairy and confectionery worlds - in the right combinations they can go together superbly. "

"We hope to have it in the shops before the end of the year."
