Water search experts help Milly hunt
Specialist cameras are being used to examine the river
Police searching for missing Surrey schoolgirl Amanda Dowler are concentrating their efforts on rivers and lakes near her home.
A specialist underwater search company is engaged in a search of an area of water around Sunbury Lock a few miles from her Walton-on-Thames home. Sonar and infra-red cameras are being used to examine the riverbed in the hope of finding some trace of the missing 13-year-old. Amanda, also known as Milly, has not been seen since 21 March.
Surrey Police decided to bring in Spartan Rescue to assist in their search after the firm was involved in 90 searches for missing people over the last two and a half years. Mark Burnett, of Spartan Rescue, said: "Our primary concern is that of Amanda Dowler and her family's welfare - to that end, all resources and effort is being offered to, and used by, Surrey Police." A Surrey Police spokesman said: "We are using every means possible, including using the best technology, to search for Amanda. "Specialist search teams have completed searches on more than 120 local sites and we have more than 100 officers working on this case at any one time."
