Woman accused of snatching twin
Elizabeth and Susanna Rice
Elizabeth, left, is now back with her twin sister
An 18-year-old woman has appeared in court accused of kidnapping a baby from a hospital maternity ward.

Kelly Louise Oldnall, of Tennyson Street, Pensnett, Dudley, West Midlands was remanded in custody.

She is accused of taking two-day-old identical twin Elizabeth Rice from the Wordsley Hospital in Stourbridge, West Midlands on Monday.

The baby was found six hours later.

Three questioned

Before she disappeared, she had been sharing a cot with her twin while their mother slept nearby.

Ms Oldnall confirmed her name, age and address during the 10-minute hearing at Halesowen Magistrates Court.

Three other people, two men and a woman, also questioned over the snatch, were released by police without charge.

The hospital has apologised to the parents, Richard and Deanne Rice.

On Tuesday the chief executive of the Dudley Group of Hospitals NHS Trust, Paul Farenden, admitted CCTV cameras were not working at Wordsley.

He promised a thorough review of security and announced extra security guards had been positioned on the maternity ward.
