Briton survives Egypt plane crash
The plane was trying to land in foggy conditions
A British man has survived an air crash on the edge of the Sahara Desert that killed up to 20 people.
The EgyptAir Boeing 737, with 62 people on board, came down in foggy and windy conditions as it tried to land near Tunis, Tunisia, after a flight from Cairo. Death toll reports vary between 14 and 20, and there are believed to be at least 30 survivors and others still missing. A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: "I can confirm there was a Briton on board the flight.
"He survived with only minor injuries and has been released from hospital. "He is now being cared for by his employers." The plane came down on a hillside four miles from the Tunis-Carthage airport. There was a distress call from the pilot just before he lost contact with the control tower, reports said. Airport officials in Tunis are quoted as saying the plane's landing gear had failed to open during the approach to the airport. The pilot then made a fresh circuit to attempt another landing and that is when the plane crashed.
