Kennedy nephew on trial for murder

The trial has begun in the United States of a member of the powerful Kennedy family, Michael Skakel, who is accused of a murder which took place 27 years ago.

Mr Skakel is the nephew of Ethel Kennedy Skakel, the widow of the former US Attorney-General, Robert Kennedy.

He has denied beating a neighbour, Martha Moxley, to death in the American state of Connecticut in 1975, when they were both aged 15.

The victim's mother has campaigned to solve the killing ever since.
