Kosovo elections postponed

The United Nations administrator in Kosovo, Michael Steiner, has delayed by five weeks local elections initially scheduled for September.

They will now take place on 26 October.

Mr Steiner said the postponement had been requested by the European security body, the OSCE, after delays in securing adequate funding.

He added that there needed to be a six-month period between the adoption of the OSCE's budget and the election.

The local poll will be the second of its kind in Kosovo since the international community took control of the province in 1999.
