A man has pleaded guilty to violent disorder in connection with a street battle that followed a Millwall football game.

Ian Harman, of Bouverie Road, Folkestone, Kent, pleaded guilty to one charge of violent disorder.

During a hearing at Greenwich Magistrates' Court on Tuesday the 37-year-old was remanded in custody until 21 May, when he is due to be sentenced.

Mr Harman was charged following violence after the game at Millwall's New Den ground in south east London last Thursday.

Police consider suing

Almost 100 police officers were injured in the trouble after the club's Division One play-off against Birmingham City, which the West Midlands team won with a last-minute goal.

The trouble, involving between 600 and 900 Millwall fans, was so bad police are considering suing the south London club for damages.

Dozens of police horses were injured when they came under attack from a barrage of missiles for more than an hour during the violence.

Crowds threw bricks, paving stones, a chisel, flares and fireworks at police.

Police said they faced up to 900 people on the streets outside the ground.
