Man 'serious' after doorstep shooting
Mr McNeill's home
Richard McNeill was shot at his home
A 28-year-old man was shot on his doorstep after being confronted by two men.

Richard McNeill underwent emergency surgery after the incident in Blantyre, Lanarkshire.

His condition was described as "serious but stable" by Strathclyde Police.

An appeal has now been launched in an effort to track down the attackers.

Enquiries are at an early stage and I have yet to establish a motive for this crime

DCI Derek Ingram
Strathclyde Police said Mr McNeill was confronted by two men as he opened the door of his home in Winston Crescent at about 0005 BST on Tuesday.

One of the men shot him with a firearm at close range.

The pair then left in a dark coloured car, thought to be an old-style Volkswagen Golf.

Mr McNeill was taken to Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Police later confirmed that his young children were in the house at the time of the shooting.

Gun shots

An appeal for witnesses has been made by Detective Chief Inspector Derek Ingram, the officer in charge of the investigation.

"Enquiries are at an early stage and I have yet to establish a motive for this crime," he said.

"I am anxious to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything, in particular gun shots in the area of Winton Crescent.

"There is no description available for the two suspects who made off in the dark-coloured vehicle and it is unclear whether there was a third person who may have been driving the car."
