Terror suspects detention extended
Strathclyde Police HQ
The men have been in police custody since Saturday
Detectives questioning six men arrested in Scotland under the Terrorism Act have been granted a warrant to hold them for a further 48 hours.

In a statement Strathclyde Police said that the detentions made on Saturday were in connection with loyalist activity.

The men were detained in a joint operation involving Strathclyde Police, MI5 and the Metropolitan Police Anti-Terrorist Branch.

It is understood they are suspected of moving small amounts of explosives and guns in connection with loyalist activity in Northern Ireland.

Those detained can be held without charge for a maximum of seven days, but police must apply for an extension every two days.

It is thought some of the men were detained when police stopped their vehicle in Lenzie Road, Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire, north east of Glasgow.

A spokeswoman said: "Following a joint operation involving Strathclyde Police, MI5 and the Metropolitan Police Anti-Terrorist Branch, six men, aged 46, 42, 40, 40, 31 and 28 years, were detained under the Terrorism Act 2000 in connection with loyalist activity."

No further details have been released.
