Philippines judge killed by gunmen

Police in the southern Philippines say three motorcycle gunmen have killed a judge outside his home as he prepared to start out on an early morning run.

A senior police spokesman Eduardo Matillano said Judge Eugenio Valles was shot five times and died instantly outside his home in Davao City, on the southern island of Mindanao.

Police sources say the judge had complained to the authorities of receiving death threats over a court ruling he made concerning a local mining dispute.
