Huge drug seizures in Afghanistan

The Afghan authorities say they seized hundreds of kilogrammes of opium in overnight raids in the eastern province of Nangarhar.

The raids came a day after Afghan troops carried out a search operation in the biggest opium market in Ghani Khel, some 40 kilometres east of Nangarhar's capital, Jalalabad.

Correspondents say the latest seizure is part of the Afghan interim administration's campaign to stop drug trafficking.

Earlier, the Afghan Interior Ministry displayed another large amount of opium which it said was seized from two people in Kabul two weeks ago.
