China and India hold anti-terrorism talks
Chinese and Indian government officials have held the first session of talks in the Indian capital, Delhi, aimed at establishing joint counter-terrorist measures following an agreement between the two countries earlier this year. An Indian government spokeswoman Nirupama Rao said the two delegations exchanged views on combating international terrorism. She said they also made further progress in negotiations on the disputed border between India and China. The two countries fought a brief border war in 1962. During an official visit by the Chinese Premier, Zhu Rongji, in January an agreement to establish counter-terrorism talks was reached with the Indian Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee. Officials say the next round of counter-terrorism talks between the two countries will be held in Beijing early next year. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
