O'Grady 'making speedy recovery'
O'Grady's alter ego, Lily, hosts TV's Blankety Blank
Comedian Paul O'Grady, known to TV viewers as drag queen Lily Savage, is making a speedy recovery after a heart attack on Thursday, his spokeswoman has said.
He could be out of hospital by the end of the week, she added. The 46-year-old underwent a two-hour operation on Friday at a London hospital. He was understood to have had an angioplasty, a procedure in which a small balloon is passed into a narrowed or blocked artery to widen it.
"Paul is doing very well, and everyone is very pleased with his progress," his spokeswoman said. 'Adjustments' "The doctors have been quite amazed at how quickly he is getting better, and it looks as though he won't need any more operations." O'Grady's agent, Brendan Murphy, said at the weekend that the star would have to make some "huge adjustments" to his work schedule. "It is too early to say what, but there are no long-term plans," Mr Murphy said. The comedian suffered the heart attack at his home near London's Tower Bridge, in central London, and immediately rang Mr Murphy. "It was a shock because he had not complained of any heart trouble before and he had no prior warning at all," Mr Murphy said. |
