Jewish graves desecrated in Slovakia

More than 130 graves have been damaged or destroyed in a Jewish cemetery in the Slovak city of Kosice.

A spokeswoman for the local authorities described the attack as one of the worst of its kind in the country since the Holocaust.

A Jewish community leader said the cemetery had already been vandalised several years ago, but not to the same extent.

Correspondents say racially motivated attacks, often carried out by skinhead youths, have been on the rise in recent years in Slovakia - although they're mostly directed against the country's much larger Roma minority.
