'Racist' attack on taxi driver
Police tape
The man was stabbed in the head and back
An Asian taxi driver has been stabbed with a kitchen knife in an unprovoked attack in his cab.

Greater Manchester Police say they are treating it as a racist attack.

The 45-year-old driver - who has not been named - suffered head, neck and hand wounds in the attack in Bolton.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

'Stable' condition

The driver picked up two white men in Barchester Avenue in the Breightmet area of Bolton at 0430 BST on Saturday.

They drove for about half a mile before the men attacked the driver from behind with a kitchen knife.

He was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital where his condition is described as "stable".

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said they were treating the incident as racially motivated.

Police have described the men as aged between 18 to 20, of slim build and with short hair.

Both spoke with local accents.
