Grand Comore presidential vote delayed
The electoral authorities on the largest of the Comoros Islands, Grand Comore, have postponed the election for the island's president which was due on Sunday. They said the poll could not be allowed to go ahead until the result is announced from last week's election for a national Comoros president. Sunday's vote was to have been the the last of the series of elections held since March which are aimed at ending years of political instability in the three-island Comoros state. The other two islands, Anjouan and Moheli, have already elected presidents under the new constitution which gives each island greater autonomy. A new election date has not yet been given.
