Officer dragged by stolen car
The officer was dragged along Clifton Street
Police fired a shot at a stolen car in north Belfast after it struck an officer and dragged him along the street.
The officer has suffered a broken pelvis, broken ribs and broken legs. The officer remains ill in hospital after he was dragged by the stolen BMW early on Sunday.
The incident took place in Clifton Street at about 0300 BST when police were dealing with a disturbance. The officer was dragged along Clifton Street on to the Antrim Road before becoming disentangled from the vehicle. At Carlisle Circus, an officer discharged a shot as the BMW passed. The BMW was stolen earlier in the evening from Maysfield leisure centre and was later recovered at Ligoniel Road. The police are treating the incident as attempted murder. Detective Sergeant Kevin Geddis said the car was driven straight at the officer. "The officer became entangled in the car, at the front of the car, and was dragged for about approximately 250 yards before he fell off," he said. The police have appealed for information.
