Angry shopper attacks Yorkie woman
The Yorkie campaign was banned from other cities
A woman handing out free chocolate bars in a controversial promotion campaign has been attacked by an outraged man at a shopping centre.
Sian Gunney, a 21-year-old student from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, was one of three women handing out the newly relaunched Yorkie bars. They were in Bristol's Broadmead shopping centre under the slogan "Don't feed the birds" - which markets the bars as not for women. But Miss Gunney was left with an injured hand after a man protested at the sexism of the campaign and attacked her. 'No humour' Miss Gunney said: "A lady was complaining that it was disgusting, sexist and demanding to talk to a manager. "The man came over, took a bar for her and then grabbed my hand which was in the box and twisted it and slammed it, breaking all the chocolate bars. "He walked off and I went after him and told him I would be making a complaint but he just left swearing. "It is just a bit of humour - most promotions are aimed at women but as soon as there is one just for blokes a lot of people have taken it far too seriously." Christina Chale, who was organising the event for Nestle, said the hand-out in Bristol was the last in a week of similar events. Earlier in the week, the campaign had been banned from Liverpool and Birmingham. Ms Chale said: "We have had to call it a day which is a shame - we have a van load of bars we won't be able to give out in Bristol. "Where is people's sense of humour?" |
