Driver critical after car crash
Police car
The injured man was suspected of drink driving
A driver was in a critical condition in hospital after his car crashed into a wall while it was being followed by a police car.

The 49-year-old man from Eastville, Bristol, was taken to hospital after the accident at 2346 BST on Friday.

He had been driving a Ford Fiesta in Park Road, Stapleton, when his car collided with a wall.

Avon and Somerset police confirmed he was being followed by a marked police car at the time of the crash after officers suspected him of drink driving.

The officers were uninjured following the incident and the police vehicle was not damaged.

A helicopter had been called out and was tracking the Fiesta when the accident happened.

The police car had dropped back earlier.

Accident investigators were at the scene overnight and inquiries were continuing Saturday.

Park Road was closed in both directions for six hours following the accident.
