Firefighters worked in silence after the fatal accident
Fire crews called to a road accident in Liverpool found one of their colleagues dead in the wreckage.

Control room operator Jenny Chapman died in the accident on a busy flyover when her car was crushed by a lorry which had smashed through the central reservation.

The 49-year-old, who was on her way to work, died instantly although fire crews took two hours to free her body.

It happened on the Rice Lane flyover in Walton, at 1725 BST on Friday.

Merseyside Fire Service spokesman Alex Macdougall said: "The crews got to the scene and it became apparent they were dealing with one of our own.

"She died instantly in the crash and it was a grim task. They were just working in silence.

"Jenny had worked for us for 25 years and she was an extremely experienced, well-liked and popular member of staff. She'll be deeply missed."
