Four missing in Alps avalanche
The authorities in France say four skiers are missing after an avalanche high up on Mont Blanc, in the French Alps. Rescue officials said a search is under way for the skiers, who disappeared after a block of ice broke off Mont Blanc - the highest mountain in western Europe - at an altitude of about 4,000 metres. French officials said one other man was injured in the incident. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
