Plane makes emergency landing
Air traffic control
Air traffic controllers advised the plan to land at Wick
A plane with 30 people on board was forced to make an emergency landing after developing an engine problem.

Police said the Loganair passenger plane was en route from Edinburgh to Sumburgh in the Shetland Islands, when the difficulty arose at about 1140 BST on Wednesday.

As the Saab 340 passenger aircraft entered Kirkwall airport airspace, a fault developed with its port engine which resulted in the engine being shut down.

Northern Constabulary said the aircraft was then diverted to Kirkwall airport in Orkney.

However due to strong crosswinds at Kirkwall, there was concern that landing there would be unsafe and the aircraft was diverted to Wick in Caithness.

A full scale emergency was declared at Wick airport and emergency services attended the scene before the plane arrived.

But the plane landed safely at midday and no-one was injured as a result of the incident.
