My Uncle Ron (Aubery) was the Queen Mum's personal chef for the best part of thirty years. My Uncle Ron was a pretty average guy, except for his special talent with food. My Uncle Ron thought the Queen Mum was just so special¿ But Ron is dead now, too - So, I presume to speak for him. The Queen Mum was really just who she was! She gave us "Lilibet" - the best Queen the UK has ever had. She gave an example of courage when it was desperately needed! She showed us how to have fun with "old-fashioned" grace and decency. The Queen Mum was incredibly privileged from her birth. I'm sure she enjoyed each and every one of those advantages to the full during her long life. But - in the end - I think we are all just a little richer in spirit By having the Queen Mum in our lives for so many years.

I had the privilege to meet the Queen Mum and Princess Margaret in 1951 at Windsor Castle. She had a very special place in my heart all my life. Her courage in WW2 was akin to the late Winston Churchill's, they taught by example for us always to have courage and dignity, yet there was always a glint of mischief. My father who was employed at Windsor castle told me about the then Queen Elizabeth Consort to George VI how she would visit the Estate workers, just as a neighbour, would stop by, I have lost both my parents and feel I have lost 2 special family members close together. My heart goes out to the Queen, Prince Charles, William & Harry and all the Royal Family. I feel especially for the Queen as she heads into her 50 Jubilee, without her Mother & Sister at her side. The loss of one's mother is like losing a part of self, I still miss mine. I am relieved that the Queen mum was at Windsor and died peacefully in her sleep, with her beloved Lillibet at her side. A life work well done, sleep well sweet Queen I shall miss your smile, style and all that you were.

At least now I can look at the East End in the face." That is a sentence which in my opinion reflects the real character of this great woman, who wanted to show the people who were suffering that they were not alone. Queen Elizabeth will always be remembered as a kind of universal grandmother figure, touching the hearts of not just the British people , but worldwide.
