Man killed in train accident
The accident happened on the outskirts of south Belfast
Police have released the name of the man who died after being hit by a train on the outskirts of Belfast on Monday.

He was 31-year-old Pearse White from Areema Drive in Dunmurry.

He died after being struck at a railway crossing in the village.

The incident happened at 1830 BST when Mr White was hit by the Dublin-bound Enterprise train at the Meeting House Lane crossing.

Passengers on board were bussed to Lisburn and transferred to another train.

'Working order'

The line was closed while police and Translink, the company that operates Northern Ireland's public transport, investigated what happened.

Translink spokesman Ciaran Rogan described the accident as tragic.

"Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased and also with the driver of the train who is quite badly shaken," he said.

"There is nothing at the moment which indicates that this is anything other than a tragic accident.

"The warning equipment has been tested and is in working order."
