Computer theft at airport
Prestwick airport
Police say the thieves knew what they were looking for
Computer equipment worth an estimated £500,000 has been stolen from a Scottish airport, police have revealed.

Strathclyde Police said the theft at Prestwick Airport, just before dawn on Monday, was well organised and well executed.

Officers believe the stolen goods were driven away in a light-coloured Ford lorry with the registration number J108 MOS.

The thieves appeared to have deliberately targeted computer disk drives in the airport's freight bonded area.

Local accent

Detective Constable Jim Kirkland said: "This was a well organised and well executed crime.

"Those involved knew exactly what was to be stolen and did so with precision."

He appealed for information from anyone who saw the lorry at the airport or in surrounding roads.

Police said many of the hard disk drives bore the Barracuda logo.

The lorry driver was described as 5ft 9in tall, he was wearing working clothes and had a local accent.

Anyone with information can contact Ayr CID on 01292 664000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
