Charles' moving tribute to Queen Mum
The Prince of Wales, Charles
To Prince Charles she was "panache, style and unswerving dignity"
In a moving bradcast, Prince Charles has paid tribute to the Queen Mother from his home at Highgrove in Gloucestershire.

Members of the Queen Mother's staff have today been paying their last respects.

Her coffin, draped in her royal standard, stands before the altar at the Royal Chapel in Windsor Great Park.

A series of 41 gun salutes was fired across Britain, there was one in Gibraltar. Hundreds of people have been signing books of condolence.

Click here to watch Prince Charles' tribute in full.

Should next Tuesday, the day of the Queen Mother's funeral, be made into a national holiday? The senior Conservative MP Sir Patrick Cormack told us he wants Queen Mother's Day to be marked every year.

Click on the link above right to hear about the day's events from our reporter Angus Crawford.

Mid East

Israel has begun what may become one of its most extensive military operations in the West Bank.

Since Thursday forces have occupied the West Bank city of Ramallah - besieging Yasser Arafat's compound and on Sunday night they occupied the town of Qal Qulya.

As our correspondent James Reynolds reports, made his way in, tanks are massing outside Bethlehem and many people there believe that town is next.

And the British government has been notably quiet about the worsening violence in the Middle East - we asked for an interview with a foreign office minister but were told none was available.

A group of MPs is visiting the region, though. David Willshire, Conservative MP, is one of them now in Cairo. He's been meeting officials from the Egyptian government. We asked him how they are reacting to the latest developments.
