Kuwaiti woman seeks asylum in India

The authorities in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu have supported the asylum application of a Kuwaiti woman who fled her country with her Indian lover.

The state's Chief Minister Jayalalitha said she had recommended to the federal government to grant asylum to the 23-year-old, Dhalal Salag Al Aazmi, on humanitarian grounds.

Ms Al Aazmi was detained two weeks ago for attempting to enter India using forged documents.

She said was forced to leave Kuwait after finding out she was pregnant and feared she could be stoned to death in her homeland.
