Flash floods kill five in Tenerife
Flash floods on the Spanish island of Tenerife have killed five people. The flooding followed a heavy rain storm in the region of the island's capital, Santa Cruz, which swept away cars and caused walls and trees to collapse. One of the fatalities, a young girl, was crushed by a falling wall. Santa Cruz's mayor said hundreds of people had been forced from their homes by the sudden downpour, which cut off access to the port and brought down power and telephone lines.
