North east Wales mourns Queen Mother
The Queen Mother will be fondly remembered
Tributes have flooded in from people in north east Wales following the death of the Queen Mother on Saturday.
Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother died peacefully in her sleep in Windsor's Royal Lodge, aged 101.
Wrexham Mayor Councillor Sandy Mewies said her death had been met with sadness. "Like everyone else in the country, both myself and all members of Wrexham County Borough Council have been deeply saddened by the death of the Queen Mother. "During her long life she symbolised the very best of the monarchy." Condolence books have now been placed in libraries throughout Denbighshire.
County Council Chairman, David Jones said: "I am sure that there are many local people who want to be able to express their sympathy and offer their condolences. "Denbighshire will make sure that their messages reach the Royal family." In his own tribute to the Queen Mother, Elwyn Edwards, Leader of Denbighshire County Council said he was lucky enough to have once met her: "I have seen her at a racecourse and I thought she was a very charming person. "I think her death is a sad time for the whole country. "Those of us of a more mature age remember her work during the war - she was marvellous," he added. Sad news Alyn and Deeside MP Mark Tami said the Queen Mother led a long and active life. "This is very sad news, she was somebody who meant so much to so many people," he said. Worshippers in the region have remembered the Queen Mother in their prayers. The Reverend Tony Rees from St David's Church in Froncysyllte said members of his congregation sympathised with the Royal Family. "One person said it was sad for the Queen, losing her mother so soon after her sister." Princess Margaret died in February after she suffered a stroke at the age of 71.
