In pictures: The Pope marks Easter
Pope John Paul II has been taking part in Easter celebrations in Rome, despite increasing health problems.
The Pope celebrated the first Mass of Easter in St Peter's Basilica
The 81-year-old pontiff remained seated for most of the time
During the service, he blessed the faithful
Good Friday saw the Pope take part in the Way of the Cross ceremony
But he had to leave it to others to carry the cross through the streets
A foot washing ceremony also proved too difficult
