Teenagers die in crash
The mangled wreckage of the car
The mangled wreckage of the car
Two teenagers, aged 19 and 16, have been killed in a car accident in County Down.

The car in which they were travelling went out of control on the Ardglass Road near Downpatrick just before 2100 GMT on Friday.

The vehicle clipped a roadside verge and careered into a wall before rolling onto its roof.

Councillor Dermot Curran, of the SDLP, said the stretch of the Ardglass Road where the crash happened was notorious for accidents.

Increase

He said it was a tragic waste of life.

"If you are not familiar with the road an accident could happen, due to no fault of your (own)," he said.

"It's very sad, especially at this time of year, Easter time."

The police have not yet released the names of the two victims.

Their deaths bring to 30 the number of people killed on the roads in Northern Ireland so far this year.

The figure is an increase on the number killed during the same period last year.
