Three die in France car accident

Three members of the same family have been killed after their car collided with a lorry in France, the Foreign Office said.

Alan Donoghue, 55, from Yorkshire, his wife Marie-Josine, 50, a dual British and French national, and her French mother Elisa, 73, were on holiday.

The accident happened at Marcilly-sur-Vienne, near the town of Tours in the Loire valley region, a Foreign Office spokesman said.

It was reported the couple's three children, aged 16, 20, and 25, were also on holiday but not in the car at the time of the accident.

The Foreign Office spokesman said: "We understand they pulled onto the wrong side of the road into the path of a lorry.

"The family were on holiday together when the accident happened.

"The rest of the family have been informed and we are in touch with the children and providing whatever assistance we can."
